This is the the disease that changed my life forever. If you have never heard of it, just imagine having the worst bladder infection imaginable, and it never goes away. IC is an incurable disorder according to western medicine and it is chronic. IC causes open painful sores in your bladder and the pain has been described as worse than end stage renal cancer. The pain is relentless and goes on day and night. It is a burning, stabbing, chards of glass feeling in your pelvic organs. You have a painful urge to urinate every few minutes, day and night. You feel a heavy fiery bowling ball in your bladder and have no idea what is causing it. You have to pee between 25-70 times a day. You are chained to a toilet.
Anyone can be diagnosed with IC at any age. Men, women, and children. Although women seem to be the most affected.
This illness effects every area of the suffers life. Your diet has to completely change. Your relationships with others and what you always use to do for fun has to change. Riding a bike becomes impossible. Sitting through a movie becomes torture. Getting stuck in traffic is hell on earth. Having a sex life becomes non existent without major pain. The chronic stress the pain puts you in effects every relationship in your life. If you are able to work, it becomes 10 times harder. You cannot go anywhere without access to a bathroom at all times. You look 100% normal on the outside. No one understands around you. People call you crazy. No one believes what you tell them could be your reality. No one wants to believe this could be real. Pastors tell you they can pray it out of you, a demon caused it. Doctors shake their head at you giving you another prescription they know most likely wont work.
The loneliness, sleepless nights, loss of hope is overpowering. Suicide takes the lives of some. How can someone go on like this?
The inner strength these patients are forced to develop is indescribable. These are the strongest women, men, and children you can meet. Outside they look normal, inside they are fighting for their sanity and life every second of the day.
This is interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome. I lived with this for 8 years and I was able to recover against all odds. I am here to tell you recovery is possible. The road is not easy, its not straightforward. Its not even promised. I can tell you its possible though. Do not give up. Change is possible.
